Donna Cuncetta embodies the soul of that true Sicily made of concreteness and hard work.
Of the remarkable ability of those who, not having grown up in comfort, are able to roll up their sleeves and forge their own character and destiny. Young, poor, and a widow, Donna Cuncetta faced life with great courage, raising her three daughters alone. Determined to redeem herself, she managed, with her tenacity, to build a landed estate on the slopes of Etna, consisting of olive groves of the prized Nocellara variety.
Cuncetta was like wildflowers, the ones that bloom and grow, despite everything, on the roadsides or in the middle of embankments, that no one has sown, cared for, or watered, but which despite everything surpass in beauty and resistance the most haughty of cultivated flowers.
She was an example to everyone, but especially to those women who, left alone, often found it difficult to move forward. She remains a highly modern figure, inspiring us today, for her determination, resilience, and tireless work—a role model to draw from in overcoming life's challenges, just as she was for so many others back then.
