Every drop of our oil carries with it the magic of Sicilian legends. The mythical figures of Letizia, Cuncetta, and Nina, symbols of strength and wisdom, inspire our bottles. These legends live in our bottles, making every taste a journey through time to discover the deep roots of our olive oil culture.
Nina had always been a special child. She was born in Turin, but her connection to Sicily, her parents' homeland, remained strong. Her father had left Sicily to pursue other career opportunities, but like everyone else, he returned to his homeland every summer. Nina had never forgotten Nina's carefree summers spent with her grandparents, the deafening song of the cicadas, her neighborhood friends, and all the outings. Her grandmother Antonina often took her to the countryside to bake bread. She would sit her in a corner and tell her to carefully observe something that would one day disappear. Her ancient gestures, the sounds and then the scents that would arise from those gestures, were etched in her heart.
Donna Letizia, a Sicilian noblewoman, lived in the 19th century in her home surrounded by lush olive groves. Elegant, refined, and cultured, she nurtured a profound love for olive trees, knowing their nuances, varieties, and properties. For her, the olive groves were a priceless treasure. In summer, when the sirocco wind dulled her senses, she loved to stroll alone among the centuries-old trees, illuminated by the moonlight and accompanied by the incessant chirping of cicadas.
Donna Cuncetta embodies the soul of that true Sicily made of concreteness and hard work.
Of the remarkable ability of those who, not having grown up in comfort, are able to roll up their sleeves and forge their own character and destiny. Young, poor, and a widow, Donna Cuncetta faced life with great courage, raising her three daughters alone. Determined to redeem herself, she managed, with her tenacity, to build a landed estate on the slopes of Etna, consisting of olive groves of the prized Nocellara variety.
Giving shape to these stories through art was Claudia Sassano, Sicilian artist known for her expressive style and the famous image of Buttanissima Sicilia. Claudia has transformed, with her sensitivity, these stories into evocative drawings, giving a face to the women of oil, silent witnesses of a tradition passed down from generation to generation.
Her illustrations tell not only the story of these women's work, but also their soul and resilience, paying homage to their passion and dedication. Every line, every color conveys the authentic flavor of our land and the essence of a culture that also expresses itself through art.
